Sculpture work from 2007-2008

The photos above are from a sculpture that was inspired by the work of Annette Lawrence, an artist out of the Dallas / Fort Worth area. The work above is a series titled: My Life. It is four foot tall two foot wide by two foot deep. There are 8 pieces. When assembled, they take up the floor space equivalent of a full sheet of plywood. The only items I used on this project were; wood, string, stain, eye hooks, a computer to generate the pattern for the strings, a projector to project the pattern onto the wood, c ad player to play the music that was represented by the strings. I used a program called Audacity, normally used for sound editing. I used it to get an output for the pattern of a section of a song that reflected my life. This work of art won best of show at the college in 2007, and student choice award the same year. As far as I am aware, this was one of the largest undertakings a student had done for the show. The awards were given on March 18, 2007.  I ended up selling the art for little or nothing because I had no place to store it, and was not about to pay for a storage facility. Some of the art faculty of the college told me that  the amount of work I had put into this piece was something most people would have done for there bfa or masters show. I had to have the work at the college by midnight on Easter Sunday of 2007. The show was being installed the following Monday. Most advanced sculpture students had all semester to complete 8 pieces of art work. I had the same amount of time but if I wanted it entered in the show that semester, it had be completed in half that time.  I remember that night for multiple reasons, My Paternal grandfather passed away the same day as the show. March 18th is my Mother's birthday, and I won the student art show.

Student show 2008. These panels were arranged and hung using z-bars and each panel is a map of a place I once called home.  They were arranged in a 3x3 display and that year, I won people choice at the show.
